Ellis House was built in the early 1900s. It was the first dairy farm in the Bayswater District and is a great example of early settler architecture.
The house was fully refurbished, in 1995 in a joint undertaking by the City of Bayswater, the Department of Employment, Education and Training, the Morley CES and the Wearne Training Centre.
Now, Ellis House Art Centre brings art to the community and supports local emerging artists through art exhibitions and classes.
Steve Lay from Lay2 Real Estate Bayswater caught up with Ellis House Art Centre chairperson, Caroline Friend, for a chat about the space and what it offers the local community.
A Piece of Oz
Steve recently live streamed a preview of the current exhibition from his Facebook page. It is called ‘A Piece of Oz’ and is an exhibition by Vincent Mulé & Peter Campagna.
This free exhibition will be on display at Ellis House from 20th August – 6th September, Thursdays to Sundays from 10am – 4pm.
Vincent Mulé & Peter Campagna are Ellis House artists and in this exhibition share pieces with an Australian theme.
Peter and Vincent have been working independently but have recognised that there are similarities with their works. They have decided to take this Australian theme one step further, by consolidating their existing and current works to bring it together as one continuous coherent theme with the inclusion of new, exciting pieces.
The outback, regions and local aspects of the characters and geological features of this vast and beautiful country can be found within this collection.
An Ellis House Art Centre community membership is only $40 per year and provides the following benefits:
