Today we popped down to the Bayswater Community Garden and met Sam.
Sam spends several hours a week in the garden tending to the vegetables. His hard work is paying off. The garden is currently abundant with peas, silverbeet and a wide variety of other vegetables.
Sam and the committee at the garden have great plans for the community garden. Their vision is to create shaded areas within the gardens for visitors to relax and unwind. They also hope to have some street art along the fence-line. In the near future they will run gardening mornings with local seniors as well as planting days for kids.
Those who volunteer their time at the Bayswater Community Gardens are rewarded with fresh vegetables to take away with them.
When he is not volunteering in the garden, Sam is Executive Manager at Community Connecting Youth. Empowering at risk young people to be positive members of the community.
The Start of the Garden
If you have time to visit the garden – check the face book page (link above) to make sure someone is there. Get involved and help out. Share your knowledge and or learn something about growing vegetables. The more vegetables in your diet the better off you will probably be – so have a go and get growing.
Get more vegetables into your diet instead of those fatty foods and watch the weight fall off…well maybe – it really depends on the person. But in most cases if you can swap out the breads, biscuits, pasta etc for vegetables you will be better off.
Any one got some good vegetable recipes?
Thank you Sam!
