Bayswater Junior Football Club Ready to Play.

Bayswater Junior Football Club Interview with Steve Lay and Rob Wittowski.

Interview with Steve Lay from Lay2 Real Estate Real Estate and Rob Wittkowski, the president of the (BJFC) Bayswater Junior Football Club. The BJFC is located at Upper Hillcrest Reserve, on Coode Street, Bayswater 6053.

The BJFC has a number of junior teams beginning with Auskick through to pre-primary, years 1’s and 2’s. The Auskick teams meet and play football on Sunday mornings, there are an average of just over 100 children participating on Sunday’s which has been running here for over 4 years now. The BJFC junior football program has been at the upper Hillcrest Park oval over 4 years, they also run junior modified football, plus a range of teams beginning from years 3 to 6 and years 7, 8, 9 and year 10’s.

Covid-19 affecting the Bayswater Junior Football Club season.

However blue sky is only weeks away! Rob was disappointed that Covid-19 had paused the beginning of the 2020 football season as the club was on track to fielding 2 girls’ teams for the first time. Additionally, this has also affected the Edmund Rice program which was also proving a success with a number of players finding their way down to the BJFC. Steve Lay, who has ventured down to the club from time to time noticed and was pleased to see the number of parents assisting with the running of the club, vitally important as the club is heavily community focused, this is essential to keep the club moving and growing into the future. This community spirit and assistance is a major contributing factor that all the children who are playing enjoy the game, are making new friends, have plenty of fun and get terrific exercise.

Growth, Development and Future Development is the Key Going Forward!

Steve asked Rob to raise some of the BJFC initiatives from 2020, Rob highlighted that the two girls teams that were ready to commence playing for the season and also the BJFC support around the Edmund Rice Centre program which has a proud history and ongoing commitment to assist children from various backgrounds, including communities from aboriginal and Torres Strait Island. It is pleasing and rewarding to see academy players flowing through the system and choosing the BJFC where they can flourish and further their career.

The Club has identified that player development and growth is in their scope looking forward to the next 3 to 5 years. The BJFC plan, focus and main goal is to field a year 11 and year 12 team, which they agree will be a challenge as kids in this age group obviously have other distractions such as study, work and are at a time when they are finding independence.

The BJFC Grand Final Success in 2019, Looking to Win More Finals in the Years to Come!

The BJFC enjoyed some on field success during the 2019 football season, the
year 7 team and the year 9 played off in the grand final, the year 7 team finished runner up with the year 9 team having an outstanding season finishing off winning the grand final. Rob is hopeful that in the coming years the club would like to see more teams within the year 3
group, and also possibly the year 4’s and 5’, that would be a satisfying outcome.

Aligning Sporting Teams and Codes is the Key for Future Prosperity!

Steve asked Rob about the aspirations of Hillcrest as an oval, the vision going forward is currently a grand plan for the club as they wish to remain at this location for many years to come. One problem identified is the change room facilities now that the club has fielded 2 girls’ teams, there are obvious challenges such as the interaction whilst using the change rooms, being before, during and after training and on game day.

Going forward Rob is hopeful of upgrading the facilities , the BJFC is working closely with various other clubs such as the Bayswater Saints Netball Club, together with the senior football club, the Bayswater Postels Cricket Club and Bayswater Morley Cricket club’s being all on the same page with a vision to provide further growth and to provide all sporting teams with upgraded and functional facilities.

Steve and Rob also mentioned a call out to all local business who wish to support the BJFC through various types of sponsorship that they make contact with the club via their website at http://www.bayswaterjfc.com/ or email Rob at [email protected]
